Camera Club reminder

away
Camden Photo Club
Greetings!

Hey All,
Hope you are doing well. I will not be able to make the meeting this month due to work commitments and Karin has graciously offered to take it over.
Do not bother to send images this month. To date there has only been one sent in. The projector will not be available this week.
There will be handouts available (only for dues paid current members) on the topics that were in the questionnaire and more.
Please bring your completed questionnaire and ideas for walkabouts etc.
Also, if there are any nominations for a new president or ideas about sharing the responsibilities of the operation of the club, please discuss them.
I'll miss being there but it promises to be a good meeting.
See you all the 3rd Mon in March.
Mike
Meeting will be held at the Fine Arts Center, Mon Feb 20 in the Bassett Bldg. at 7pm.

January Meeting Minutes

Camden Photo Club
Jan 2012
Greetings!

Camden Photo Club

January 16, 2012 Meeting Minutes

We had 10 members present. We welcome our newest member, Gordon Brandon and hope that Virginia Wilson will also become a member. Six members paid their dues. Remember, we decided to pay all of our dues in January instead of the month that we each paid last year.

PLEASE MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO "CAMDEN PHOTO CLUB"

Discussion. Mike opened the meeting with a discussion about the future direction of the club and what we would like to have in terms of classes. Some ideas put forth were classes in the basic mechanics/camera settings of digital photography - basically, a beginner's class; off camera flash techniques; black and white photography; and theory of light. We also discussed walk-abouts and day trips. For those of you that consider yourselves intermediate, we have not forgotten you and plans are being made to accommodate.

Presentation: Mike's long-time friend, John Aegerter, presented a slide show of some of the photographs he has taken during his travels around the world on hiking adventures. It was interesting to note that even though he had some exceptional photographs, he is not a "photographer" and his photographs were all taken with a basic "point and shoot" camera.

February Meeting. We will not longer meet in Mike's training facility. The February meeting will be held on Mon. February 20th, at 7:00pm. The location will be the Fine Arts Center in the gallery in the Bassett Bldg. The bldg. is located on Lyttleton St.

Bring a friend !

Member's Photos. The subject is WINTER WILDLIFE. Remember, when submitting your photos to Mike, they should be titled Winter Wildlife LastName February or Random LastName February. Only three members submitted photographs for January. We hope to have many more for February. Note for new members: we can submit two photographs each month - one is the predetermined subject and the other is a random photo of any subject. Submit them to Mike at saddleguy@gmail.com, in JPEG format.

Thanks for your participation in the club. We look forward to a very productive 2012!

PS I want to take a minute to thank Billie for all her work as club secretary, Teri for sending many good links that I will share before the next meeting and Troy who has put a questionnaire together to let us know where everyone is with their cameras. This will all be sent a couple weeks before the next meeting.

January Meeting

cloudy day
Don't forget our meeting on Mon Jan. 16th
Greetings!

Looking forward to seeing you all on Mon. Jan 16th at 7 pm. The meeting will be at Mike's school.

For this meeting we will have a slideshow and brief talk from mike's friend John Aegerter. While John is not a 'photographer' he travels the world as an avid hiker and will share and chat about some of the images he has taken.

Please make sure to send your assignments and random images in advance. I will be busy the Sun night and the day of the meeting so I will need them by this Saturday.

Thanks all,
Mike

December Camera Club Minutes

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays
Club Minutes

Camden Photo Club
December 19, 2011 Meeting Minutes
We had 5 members present.

Member Discussion.

Fine Arts Center. Very few members are using this opportunity to showcase their work. The photographs that are up there have been there for a long time and it would be good to replace them with different photographs. The wall reserved for our photo club is directly to the left as you walk in the front door of the main building.

Walk-Abouts. We discussed having more walk-abouts with all the club members, in addition to the small groups that go out together. We considered and discussed using some of our dues money to sponsor a daytrip for everyone.

Websites.   500.px is an excellent website for viewing extraordinary photographs. Also, if you type OOB photography in Google, you will get multiple websites for creative photographs. If you are interested in renting lenses, adorama.com and b&h.com, are good websites.

Special Presentation. Karin presented a slide show of some of her horse photography and then provided an insight into her thoughts as she was taking the pictures. Most of the photographs were of race horses and jumpers and were totally captivating. Thanks Karin!
Members' Photos. The subject this month was State or National Parks. We all enjoyed the very interesting and creative photos that were submitted.

Coming Events for January 2012!
January Meeting. Our regular meeting will be held on Monday, January 16th @ 7:00pm in Mike's Training Facility.
Members' Photos. The subject is COLOR OPPOSITES. Remember, when submitting your photos to Mike, they should be titled Color Opposites LastName January or Random LastName January.

Membership Dues. They are due in January. Since most dues were paid in January thru March this year, we decided that instead of staggering them by month, it would be simpler to have them all due in January. They are $25.00, payable in cash or check to Billie. In writing a check, please make it out to Camden Photo Club.

Thanks again for supporting our club and continuing to offer suggestions for making it more productive and informative for our members. I wish everyone a very happy holiday season and a prosperous new year.

Don't forget the Fair!!!

Don't Forget The Fair!
Babcock MillGreetings!

Just wanted to remind you all that in place of the Oct. club meeting, we will be doing a walkabout at the fair next Mon the 17th.

I was there briefly tonight and the best place to park seems to be gate 10 which is near the stadium.

It would be best to go in on your own and we can meet as a group at 6:30 in front of the Cantey Bldg.  Just ask where the art exhibits are if you can't find it.

Many people I have seen and spoken to are not going to attend. Those of you that plan on attending please RSVP to me at   saddleguy@gmail.com  so I will know to expect you.  My cell is 803-422-5894

Bring a tripod !

Hope to see you there and that you are all enjoying the great fall weather.

Thanks,
Mike

September 19, 2011 Meeting Minutes

We had 12 members present, plus one possible new member, Cindy Fussell. This meeting focused on member's thoughts and goals for the future of the club. We determined that we would continue to meet once a month.

Columbia Camera Club. Several members already attend their meetings. They meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 7:00 - 8:30pm at the Capital Senior Center, Maxcy Gregg Park (where Pickens crosses Blossom). Becoming a Member is EASY:

The method of joining is to register at one of the regular meetings. Annual dues are $30.00 [semi-prorated @ $15 if a member joins July-Dec], which can be paid at one of their club meetings. (Sorry, but there is currently no apparatus for joining online or by mail.)

Carolinas' Nature Photographers Association. Their website is www.cnpa.org. Their next annual meeting will be February 9-12, 2012, in Columbia SC.

Member Discussion.

Mike suggested we have a photography contest like the Columbia Club did recently. We would bring in a professional photographer - possibly Lonnie Hoke - to judge our photos using the "12 Elements of a Merit Image" criteria that Lonnie shared with us. We have handouts for those who were unable to attend his presentation.

Teri recommended we bring in speakers to discuss the "subjects" of our monthly photos the month before each subject is assigned. This offers a much better learning environment than simply assigning a subject at random.

Mike is interested in purchasing software with "club discounts". If anyone has time to research available sites that offer this, please let him know.

Members can submit photographs to the state and local fairs for judging and cash prizes.

Lynda.com is a website that offers online software training.

Sunday evenings at 7:00pm on PBS - Wild Photography Adventures

Speakers. Mike would like to invite professional photographer, David Hartfield, to give a presentation on "Composition". David's website is davidhartfield.net.

Walk-Abouts. Several places were suggested for walk-abouts:

The church & cemetery on 261 near 378
Interesting buildings in Camden
Magnolia Gardens in Charleston
Cathedral St. Lukes & St. Paul in Charleston
Holly's family's island in North Myrtle Beach
Huntington Beach State Park
Botany Bay
Francis Beidler Forest - beidlerforest.org - 100's of birds and other assorted creatures
Night photos of bridges and cemeteries

Members'Photos. The subject this month was "Abandoned Buildings". We all enjoyed the very interesting and creative photos that were submitted.

Coming Events for October

October Meeting. Instead of our regular meeting, we will meet at the State Fair on Monday, October 17th.

We can meet at 6:15 at the main gate in the stadium parking lot.  Mike's cell is 803-422-5894. Please be there by 6:15, as we will enter then. Stragglers can try and find us. Please RSVP to saddleguy@gmail.com, so we can have a general head count.

The cost is $10 at Bi-Lo, Etix, or the fair gates for those youngsters under age 54. If you are over 54, you can get in for $5, but you must purchase your ticket at the fair gates with proof of your age.

Member'Photos. Since we will be meeting at the fair, we will not have photos for October. We will take photos at the fair for our November meeting. The subject is TEXTURE. The RANDOM photo should also be taken at the fair. Remember, when submitting your photos to Mike, they should be titled Texture LastName November or Random LastName November. If you are unable to join us at the fair, please take your photos anywhere you choose and send them in for the November meeting.
